DES MOINES, Iowa (Dec. 14, 2022)—EMC Insurance Companies announced that Eduard Pulkstenis has been named Senior Vice President – Chief Underwriting Officer for the company. In this position, Pulkstenis will oversee all aspects of the corporate underwriting function to support profitable growth including strategic direction, product development, and underwriting governance and controls.

Pulkstenis joins EMC with over three decades of experience at carriers including Selective, The Hartford and AIG, in addition to several insurance startups that he has helped to found or launch. Most recently, Pulkstenis served as Co-Founder and Chief Underwriting Officer for Joyn Insurance Services, Inc. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance for Education and Research and is also a licensed insurance producer for property, casualty and surplus lines in 48 states.
Pulkstenis has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Messiah College and completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. His designations include Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member, American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
