DES MOINES, Iowa (Dec. 9, 2022)—EMC technology leader, Jason Henson, Principal Enterprise Architect, received the Patriot Award on Nov. 16 from the Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, for EMC Insurance Companies’ support of employees who are also military service members.
“Supportive employers like EMC Insurance Companies are vital to the success of our mission and the defense of this nation,” said Becky Coady, Iowa ESGR State Chair. “Our Guard and Reserve members could not perform their military duty without knowing their civilian employers support them 100%.”
Henson was nominated by Major Gary Carter, Iowa Army National Guard and Enterprise Architect for EMC. ESGR volunteer Jim Freese presented Henson the award at EMC’s corporate office.
“As an aviator and the State Safety Officer, I have requirements that exceed most Guard members,” Carter said. “Recently, I was called away with very short notice to perform safety-related duties with the Iowa National Guard. With Jason’s support, my team members and I conducted a diversity, equity and inclusion-focused day at Camp Dodge. Jason and team members throughout EMC have been extremely supportive of my 15 years of military service, including supporting me and my family during two deployments.”
According to the ESGR, the award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence, if needed. ESGR Awards are issued through the Department of Defense and are presented to recipients by ESGR volunteers.
