A virus gets into a retailers’ computer system
A retail business suffers a virus infection that corrupts their data and causes their computer system to stop working, causing a significant loss of income. The policyholder brings in an IT firm to remove the virus and reinstall their software. Total cost of lost income and system restoration: $22,000
Customers receive phishing emails
Customers of an insured equipment dealer began receiving strange emails that appeared to be coming from the dealer. An IT consultant confirmed the dealer’s computer had been infected with a virus, which was later removed. Weeks later, a former customer claimed they got the virus from the dealer’s email and had incurred significant cost to have the virus removed. Total first- and third-party costs: $48,200
A contractor was hacked
A transportation contractor faced a cyber-attack from a former employee, which led to system malfunctions, deleted data, and damaged software.
